Good day, dear Colleagues
The sun has come out allowing our farmers an opportunity to assess the damage to their crops after the devasting floods of the past few days
As it stands the pome fruit exports are complete, the citrus is in its infancy and should reach full capacity within the next few weeks, at this stage it is still too early to assess the damage t the crops – the challenge is cargo to market
TPT hosted an urgent Teams meeting this morning with the transporters, shipping lines and exporters on alignment on road closures within the province and will host another on Monday 18th at 10am, should you wish to join, please email or WhatsApp me.
They are also committed to provide further updates on road conditions as and when they occur
As an industry, we extend our sincere thank you and appreciation to TPT, City of Cape Town, Western Cape Government, local municipalities who assisted and of course not forgetting the local communities who helped save the day.
We ARE better together!!!
The good news of the week is the updated rendering of the Capetrain Express, as attached, to pique your interest and have a glimpse into the future of our transport system.
We are one of the only major cities in the world that does not have a direct rail link between the airport and the CBD – the Capetrain Express Project does not only achieve this, it also provides safe, efficient express transport from the outlying suburbs, via transit hubs into the city.
As tourism is one of the biggest creators of employment, and we are recognized globally as one of the top destinations, this will draw even more visitors to our shores, a subject we plan to address this at our end- May function.
Until next week when we’ll reveal more details of a future Cape!
Yours in transport!
