Newsweek 25!

As we were about to go to press, the latest World Bank CPPI 2025 report dropped into my inbox...

Good morning, Dear Stakeholders

What a divisive week this has been!

On the one side, we have the naysayers who are almost taking delight in the PoCT being ranked 400 (bottom of the list )  on the World Bank’s List of Worst Performing ports in 2025.

The others, this scribe included, believe that we are not playing on a level playing field and comparing apples with apples.

The Cape Chamber and SAAFF are of the same opinion and believe we must engage with the World Bank to change the conversation, which is the proposal, setting up a task team to address this misconception.

For the naysayers, you only had to be in Cape Town on  Youth Day and glance across at ‘the worst performing port in the world’  and note the 3 working vessel alongside at CTCT, the ever busy FPT,  and 3 vessels working at CTMPT!

This is not even taking cognisasance of the situation and beautiful surroundings of our port, which, of course, explains why wind plays such a vital role on the port movements due to the meeting of the cold Benguela and warm Agulhas currents at Cape Point, being a mere 62.7km distant.

Does thie World Bank take cognisance of this, or our natural beauty?

Enough said!
