Containers are up by +7% this week; air cargo is up by +6%
Good morning, colleagues and interested parties
We are sharing the latest version of the cargo report.
The following highlights are worth noting:
1. Local round-up:
a) Both containers (+7%) and international air cargo (+6%) experienced consecutive increases week-on-week.
b)Vessel time at berth and anchorage remains stable across the port network.
c) Lastly, a fire incident at D Berth within Durban’s Point Multi-Purpose Terminal temporarily affected operations on the evening of 22 June .
2. Global round-up:
a) Hormuz disruption persists, with only nine container ships having departed the Persian Gulf after the Iran-US peace deal, leaving 50+ container ships still stranded; recorded transits included 26 dry bulk vessels and 31 tankers.
b) Vessel delays remain distorted: Sea-Intelligence notes that schedule padding may understate true disruption, with the Schedule Padding Index still negative at -0.14 days in early 2026, versus +0.06 days pre-pandemic.
c) Capacity pressure remains acute: the global orderbook is nearing 13 million TEU or 38.3% of the fleet, while 74% of orders since July 2025 are below 6,500 TEU; congestion is absorbing 3.4 million TEU at anchorages.
