New Leadership announced at the 47th AGM

Exporters Western Cape (EWC) has confirmed its leadership team for the 2026/27 year following a well-attended 47th Annual General Meeting.

Terry Gale was reappointed as chairman, while Deon Theron was appointed as vice-chairman.

A quorum was achieved at the meeting, allowing the organisation’s formal business to proceed. Members received and considered the chairman’s report and the financial statements, while Greg Williams presented the treasurer’s report. Vic Morris was also reappointed as the organisation’s auditor for the 2026/27 financial year.

Kevin Melnick was appointed to the EWC committee following the resignations of Jake Botha and Gavin Strydom. EWC thanked Botha and Strydom for their contribution to the organisationand welcomed Melnick to the committee.

Gale said the strong attendance reflected the value exporters continued to place on collaboration and a united industry voice, particularly amid the uncertainty affecting international trade.

“Exporters are operating in an increasingly complex and unpredictable global environment. Organisations such as Exporters Western Cape have an important role to play in bringing people together, sharing knowledge and ensuring that the concerns of exporters are heard,” he said.

“The strength of EWC lies in its members and the willingness of people across the export community to support one another. We look forward to building on this foundation during the year ahead.”

Following the formal proceedings, guests were entertained by stand-up comedians Anton Taylor and Jam Jam before enjoying drinks, snacks and an evening of networking.

Their performances once again highlighted the importance of laughter during difficult times and the distinctly South African ability to find humour and hope amid uncertainty. This message was particularly relevant as exporters navigate a volatile global trade environment marked by shifting policies, rising costs and geopolitical disruption.

The AGM provided an opportunity not only to complete the organisation’s formal annual business but also for members and industry stakeholders to reconnect, exchange ideas and look ahead to the challenges and opportunities facing Western Cape exporters.

EWC thanks everyone who attended and contributed to the success of its 47th AGM.

Terry Gale and Deon Theron, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Exporters Western Cape.
