We are sharing the latest version of the cargo report.
Containers are down by -3% this week; air cargo is down by -1%
The following highlights are worth noting:
- Durban Gateway Terminal – current situation:
- DGT remains under severe operational pressure: The underlying throughput remains materially depressed. DGT has averaged 3,672 TEUs/day over the last four weeks, approximately -30.5% below the 5,286 TEUs/day average recorded over the preceding four months.
- The vessel queue has reduced but remains significant, falling from 10 vessels at anchorage on 7 September to five on 10 September, while berth occupancy remained at four vessels throughout.
- Yard indicators remain volatile: stack occupancy moved from 60.8% to 63.2% between 7 and 10 September, while road imports on hand increased from 3,968 to 4,421 containers (+11.4%).
- Reefer pressure remains acute, reaching 106% occupancy on 9 September before easing marginally to 102% on 10 September.
- Landside throughput remains inconsistent, with gate moves averaging approximately 2,147 per day since the start of the week, while rail evacuation has also fluctuated sharply.
- Mitigation measures are increasingly being used to manage around the disruption, with approximately 11,550 containers already rerouted and further vessel-diversion and network strategies continuing.
