Circular to Members19 May 2026
Exporters Western Cape recently attended the 12th annual Ports Consultative Committee (PCC) and National Ports Consultative Committee (NPCC) roadshow in Cape Town. The nationwide ports stakeholder consultation process includes presentations and engagement sessions with the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), the Ports Regulator of South Africa (PRSA) and industry stakeholders.

The consultation process provides port users and industry stakeholders across the South African port system with an opportunity to engage directly on port development plans, operational priorities and tariff frameworks, while also enabling further comment on these plans before they are formally tabled by the TNPA at the respective quarterly PCC meetings.

The Cape Town roadshow was extremely well attended and provided valuable engagement between industry, port authorities and the regulator.
It remains important for industry to actively engage with the port system as South Africa works towards improving competitiveness, growing trade and strengthening logistics performance.

As Exporters Western Cape we are actively engaging with the PCC and NPCC processes to ensure exporters remain part of the conversation around the future of South Africa’s ports.

Key topics discussed during the roadshow included cargo volume forecasts, port development framework plans, seven-year capital expenditure programmes, operational performance, marine operations, dredging and regulatory developments.
Industry stakeholders were also updated on long-term infrastructure planning across the national port system, including proposed container terminal expansion in the Port of Cape Town, additional berth developments and broader investment plans aimed at improving port capacity and efficiency.

Stakeholders have until 26 May to submit any recommendations or inputs on the port system to SAMSA, which will consolidate the feedback and submit it to Transnet. Feedback on the outcomes of the nationwide roadshow process, which is taking place across all port cities as well as Johannesburg over the next two weeks, will be provided to industry during the first week of July.

Exporters Western Cape encourages all port users to actively participate in the process by sharing their views, inputs and recommendations. Collaboration across the port system remains essential to building a stronger and more competitive South Africa. We are stronger when we work together.
