Where to start that is the question!
This has been another exciting week for Exporters Western Cape, starting on Monday afternoon’s engagement with Premier Alan Winde, who is always able to share information to lift our spirits and boost our morale!
Premier Winde shared with us his recent international travels, including Austria and Dubai, where the Dubai Chamber of Commerce committed to open an office in Cape Town to develop business opportunities between our regions, looking in particular at FDI into our province.
The French/SA Chamber of Commerce and Industry celebrated their 45th anniversary this week, at the beautiful Roche Bobois showroom in de Waterkant, hosted by H.E. David Martinoin, Ambassador of France to South Africa, Ms Sohie Brel, Consul of France in Cape Town and Philip Geromont, Vice Chairman of FSACCI.
What a contrast to the current trade impasse between SA and the USA! The EU 2nd largest economy growing their trade with us and looking at more FDI into our country and province, covered by the EU/SA trade agreement!
In attendance at this prestigious event, where the Consuls from Germany and Belgium and their respective trade delegations.
On that note, we have approached Minister Park Tau, Trade Industry & Competition to address EWC, to provide an update on this vital trad lane, however, as the Minister is out of the country currently, we await his return to finalise details – watch this space!
As you might be aware, the White Housw Executive Order particularly states : if South Africa takes significant steps to remedy some of the US concerns, the US President may decrease the tariff or limit it in scope- it is up to us!
We are also approaching the White House direct, before it’s too late to avoid the 30% import surcharge, D-day being 9th July – the clock is ticking! We cannot wait for the President to take the initiative!
Who knows we might have President Trump deliver the keynote address at a function!
