Trust this finds you well and warm in this extreme weather the Cape has been experiencing, living up its monicker of the Cape of Storms.

On the bright side of things, the rain is good for our agricultural exports and should ensure an excellent grape harvest, both for the fruit and for the wine industry.

Port stats for the week 01 – 07/07:

• Equipment : 6 STS gantries operational – LC8 should be back in operation today; 22 RTGs out of 30 due to weather induced breakdowns

In view of the inclement weather and the forecast for the next week, please monitor the stack updates carefully as vessels are bypassing the PoCT with regularity as this information changes at a moment’s notice.

We have taking cognisance that over the past few weeks, prior to this spell of bad weather, the terminals were devoid of vessels, yet the lines were still bypassing the port with the exclaimer ‘due to congestion delays’

This  begs the question – what congestion?!

This is a misnomer and even during the current stormy patch, the terminals do work intermittently, very seldom is there a complete port shutdown as has been alluded to in some of our local press – sensationalism sells!

Please do RSVP to our July function on the 29th when our Executive Mayor will deliver the keynote address and also engage with industry as to any relevant issues you might have – more about that in next week bulletin.

Stay safe, stay warm, stay indoors!!!
