GOOD NEWS FRIDAY – 15 Sept 2023

We held our 44th AGM last night and for those not present reported robust growth in membership and with our new committee...

Dear Colleagues

Winter is still lingering, and with it, the heavy swells and stormy seas, as reflected in our CTCT stats below:

Spring is just around the corner, as the equinox is only a few days away.

We held our 44th AGM last night, and those not present reported robust growth in membership and with our new committee now on board, are looking at exceeding the current trajectory by at least 20%

Non-members, be on the lookout for our team to come a’knocking to you to sign up, as there is power in numbers to fight the current issues that beset our beautiful land.

From an EWC perspective, this has been a busy week, attending a 2-day workshop on Africa’s industrialisation and the AfCFTA,  hearing about the ease of doing business in Hong Kong (a lesson for South Africa?) and the great work Air Access are doing putting Cape Town on the map!

Port Stats for week 04 – 10/09 as follows:

CTCT : 11329 TEU Handled; 10GCH 20SWH; high swells for 24 hours impacted terminal; 4 hours system failure; 13% night shift; 245 rail moves 36% stack occupancy
CTMPT: 1961 TEU target 1670; 14GCH 13 SWH, 5-hour wind delay
FPT : 54% Berth occupancy; 6 vessels handled, 2 container, 2 multi-cargo 1 B/B 1 Dry Bulk Direct Ops: 1231 TEU, 6372.02 MT Dry Bulk Direct; General Cargo B/B 2470.73 MT

Ending on a positive note : TNPA has sent out a RFI for the Culemborg Precinct Project which will be a gamechanger for this massive piece of undeveloped land right on the port’s doorstep, alleviating much of the congestion in the port itself.

Please note there will be no Good News next week as this scribe will be in Durban attending the Transport Evolution. Week 39 will be a bumper edition!

Until we meet again!
