This is a week that I am searching for good news as our port has been heavily impacted by wind delays which in normal times should have abated by now.
Our thoughts are with our upcountry fellow South Africans who are seeing heavy rains with resultant flooding – we sure are living through a time of extremes! Note: Climate Change is here!

The port performed relatively well under the circumstances, CTCT handling 12569 TEU for the week 06 – 12 February, with 337 rail moves and night utilisation at only 7%.
CTMPT handled 1142 TEU out of 1441 planned, however the booming cruise season has an impact on MPT as the cruise liners encroach onto the MPT berths, limiting available wharfage space.
FPT is the shining light for week 06 – 12 February and continues to show resilience with all the challenges faced, handling 7 vessels, with good numbers for containers, breakbulk & fruit.

Through these challenges, there is a sense of camaraderie, as we all share the same vision to ensure the PoCT returns to its rightful status as a hub for international trade.

Of course, not forgetting Exporters Western Cape’s return to Portside, our ‘Flagship’ venue, hosting the Hong Kong team to showcase what our beautiful city offers – see you there on Wednesday 1st March!

Let’s keep our flag flying – we certainly have the wind power for that!
