GOOD NEWS FRIDAY – 24th MAR 2023

Today’s quote :

Alone we may be fast, but together we go further.

This is so appropriate in the current situation in which we find ourselves, where we all share the same vision, however do not want to share the same platforms to ensure the continual economic growth of our city and province.

Our weekly stakeholders meeting with TNPA a case in point – this was inaugurated on 17th June 2020, at the outset of COVID and through meeting weekly, we have resolved many issues, brought a 3rd berth & 9th gantry operational at CTCT,  the 2 shore tension units working alleviating vessel ranging.
A few months back the CTMPT was almost non-operational, with equipment challenges, an untidy and uneven potholed wharf-side which has now been resurfaced, and the terminal can now assist with the current congestion at CTCT.

In a perfect world it would be ideal if all our carriers could appreciate the advantages of joining our weekly meeting to get a better grasp of the challenges that we are all facing – wishful thinking?! .

Onto the good news – the response to last week’s GNF & the importance placed on the functioning of our port on the economy from industry was nothing short of phenomenal – thank you for your response.

The terminals for the week 13 – 19/3 performed as follows:

  • CTCT : 13266 TEU Handled, wind impacted operations on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday with delays of 46.2 hours & 5.8 hours lost fog bound.
A record 3253 TEU moves on Sunday, 372 rail moves and 13%-night utilisation.
  • CTMPT:  2623 TEU out of target of 1506 planned – wind delays of 38 hours recorded,
  • FPT : A good week, 7 vessels handled, with a good cross section of 2 container vessels (1675 TEU); dry bulk 18460.76 tons, B/B 311.67 tons; fruit 1631 pallets & 30134 tons cement.
  • Port Congestion/Berthing Delays: there has been a major improvement on this, from 12 vessels at anchor 2 week ago, to 6 today (24/03) – Carriers please note this!!
The POCT & our economy cannot afford to have vessels by-passing our strategic port!
