GOOD NEWS FRIDAY – 28 November 2025

Dear Colleagues

Even though the wind has blown relentlessly over the past few weeks, on the bright side it has blown all the filth away and when the wind does abate, even for a few minutes,  how beautiful the sky and mountains look.

If we did not have the wind, can you imagine how hot the city would be?! Every cloud has a silver lining – even if it is the South-Easter!

The wind has heavily impacted CTCT and over the week of 17 – 23rd November the terminal was windbound for 131 hours, the good news is that CTMPT handled over 2300 TEU over he same period, as indicated below.

The other good news from the quayside is that the cruise terminal has performed exceptionally well with the turnaround of the cruise liners not severely impacted by the wind, which is vital to the success of their visits to our city.

Port Stats as follows: (week 17 – 23rd November)

• CTCT : Terminal only fully operational on Monday 17th November
• CTMPT :  2431 TEU Handled target 1094; 16 GCH target 16; 26 SWH 19 target 17% stack occupancy
• FPT:  Berth Occupancy : 77%; 8 vessels handled, 1 container, 1 multi cargo, 3 breakbulk, 3 layby : 1041 TEU Handled 8182.96 MT B/B
• Fruit : the deciduos season has started with the 1st of the grapes from the Northern Cape being exported, by all acounts, it will be a good season, although the wind does hamper these exports, resulting in shipping via PE/Coega and Walvis Bay, with a masive impact on cost
• Equipment : Currently 8 of 9 STS operational, 24 RTGs with the next 9 due to be operato by this Sunday and the rest before the peak fruit season kicks in

Trade: We are still fighting the 30% reciprocal tariff and the latest we’ve heard is that AGOA wil be extended for 2 years, BUT excluding South Africa! (thanks to the succes of the G20!)

EWC has again pleaded with the GNU (DTIC) and WCG to support our initiative to ensure that South Africa is included in this extension – watch this space!!!!

Friendly Reminder : Our last function for 2025 is next Thursday 4th December when we host the Select Florida Trade Mission – an opportunity into this market as a conduit for Latin America and the Caribbean.

As the clock ticks towards the holiday season for most, stay well, stay safe!
