Dear Colleagues
As our port continues to perform well, we could not wait until Friday to share this with you!
In the current dearth of positive information, the PoCT is a beacon of hope for us.
Putting our money where our mouth is: here are the stats to prove it: (Week 11 – 17 August)
• CTCT : 16819 TEU Handled, 14000 target; 15 GCH 19 target; 30.7 SWH target 40; 33% Night utilization; 294 Rail moves; berthing on arrival; 29% stack occupancy
• CTMPT : 2627 TEU Handled 835 target; 13 GCH target 16; 18 SWH target 19; 1244 Truck gate moves, 1500 target;
• FPT : 42% berth occupancy: 5 vessels handled: 1 container, 2 Multi cargo, 1 Breakbulk, 1 Layby; 1626 TEU handled; 300.46 MT Dry Bulk, 8729.05 MT B/B General cargo; 1468 B/B pallets fruit
• Fruit : YTD 12% increase in volume from PoCT; 14% increase from all SA ports – one of the best citrus season’s ever!
• Equipment : 8 out of 9 STS operational; 21 out of 24 RTGs, – new 9 RTGs should be on stream within the next few weeks
It must be noted that there is consistency in the improved working of the terminals and at our last 2 weekly stakeholder’s engagement, the transporters have not lodged any significant complaints and delays as in the past.
Well done, to the Port of Cape Town Team – keep this up!
It has also been mentioned that the CoCT is looking at an initiative to make the Port of Cape Town the easiest to do business with in Africa, requiring the input from all stakeholders – an excellent idea & EWC 100 supportive of this.
On the home front, our next event is our Ladies Day breakfast on Wednesday 27th and then we are awaiting availability of Minister of Trade, Investment & Competition, Park Tau, to provide a date for his keynote address on his return to SA from India on 27th August.
Our AGM is planned for Wednesday 10th September and we’re planning an exciting evening for you. This is an opportunity for your voice to be heard and if interested in joining the committee, please drop me an email.
Lastly and most importantly, we are still fighting for the withdrawal of the 30% reciprocal tariff on the USA trade and await an update from the White House, as to our invitation for President Trump to address EWC!
Yours in exporting – keep our flag flying high!
