Good morning, Colleagues

The week of 12 – 18th August, has not been the most productive of weeks, in view of the challenges our terminals faced due to the inclement weather, heavy swells, impacting berthing and working of vessels alongside.

This also impacted the equipment challenges as maintenance and repairs could not take place due to the extreme weather conditions.

As the citrus season draws to a close, and by all it has been a good one from the PoCT perspective with an increase of 6% recorded for the current season, within the next few weeks the 1st of the grapes will start from the Northern Cape .

Another good story id the increase in demand for our blueberries, which accounted for 21 212 090kg in 2023, however, in view of this being time sensitive cargo, mostly move airfreight.

Peak season is from weeks 38 – 47 and could account for 1582 containers if shipped sea freight.

Our exporters are still struggling with shortage of MT Equipment in Cape Town, which is a major concern and being addressed at the highest levels.

Stats for week 12 – 18th August as follows:

  • CTCT : 9463 TEU handled target 13696 12 GCH 24 SWH, 9.25 hrs wind delay, 54.17hours ranging, max 2308 TEU handled on 15th August; 27% night utilisation, 32% stack occupancy, 375 rail moves
