This is the penultimate GNT for 2023 and as the saying goes ‘time flies when you’re having fun’!
Not quite sure if this is relevant to our industry in particular in view of the year we have just come though, however?!

This is Good News Thursday, so here we go….

The PoCT remains open for business contrary to the sceptics and the newsfeeds we read, and the implementation of a congestion surcharge for import containers and as Capetonians, we ask why? What congestion?!
Perhaps SAASOA can look into this and give Cape Town some reprieve!  How would that be for a Christmas bonsela?!
There are currently no delays in PoCT with CTCT having 2 vessels on berth and 2 vessels arriving as of yesterday.

Stats for week 27/11 – 03/12 as follows:

  • CTCT :   13285 TEU Handled 12 GCH 27 SWH wind delay of 6.5 hours on 29th with only 281 TEU handled peaking at 2899 TEU on 2nd December; 16% night moves &219 rail moves;
  • CTMPT: 1011 TEU Handled target 1088, 12 GCH 11 SWH, 231% Stack occupancy 3 mobile cranes operational TTAT 19 minutes;

  • Fruit : Season starting and appears that it will be a bumper one thanks to the good winter rainfall,

A big thank you to Western Cape Government, Cape Chamber and TNPA for their valued input and presentations at our function on Monday and of course, to our members and friends for making this possible for EWC to be the independent voice of the industry.

Watch out for your special edition next Thursday, 14th December!
