Dear Colleagues

Even though we are still fighting the challenge of President Trump’s reciprocal tariff of 30% come into play on Friday, 1st August, while our President sits pondering…….!

We are focusing on a few pockets of excellence shining through this week, of which we can really be proud.

The first is our Port, with our terminals excelling themselves, as the starts below show (week    14 – 20/07)

• CTCT : 19931 TEU Handled (target 14000) 16 GCH (19 target) 31.1 SWH (target 40); 41% Stack occupancy; 523 rail moves – an impressive record!
• CTMPT : 2141 TEU Handled (1188 target); 17 GCH (16 target) 19 SWH (target 19) ; 10% stack occupancy
•  FPT : 41% stack occupancy; 5 vessels handled, 1 container, 3 multi- cargo & 1 Dry Bulk; 1103 Containers, 5711.13 MT Dry bulk; 1737.7 MT Breakbulk General & 1971 B/B pallets fruit
• Equipment : 7 STS, 24 RTGs and 58 hauliers (the 9 new RTGs should be fully operational within weeks)

CTCT needs to commended for its excellent performance for this week – can you visualize the figures when the new equipment comes on board?! Well done, TPT Team!

The other pocket of excellence was the keynote address by Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen, at our July event on Tuesday evening – what a thought provoking, insightful talk that we were privileged to host.

One of the main takeaways from this is that South Africa needs a fully functional diplomatic mission in Washington DC and we need that NOW! Are you listening, Mr President?

Not only did the Minister bowl us over, we had Nicky Weimar, Chief Economist, Nedbank, who provided an update on  the current status of the South African economy and Nicky has a way of presenting that you sit up and take notice!

So, there you have it, plus Cape Town was awarded the 2nd cheapest destination globally by Conde Nast Traveller and the best destination in the World by the Telegraph!

Do you really want to live anywhere else>?!

Yours in exporting for over 46 years!
