Dear Colleagues
At the end of another interesting week of our 31 year old democracy, the good news is that the Port of Cape Town is ready for the 1st of the citrus season exports, which by all accounts could be a bumper season.
This depends on the outcome of our President’s meeting at the White House on Wednesday and what cognizance President Trump has taken of the continuance of AGOA post September and withdrawal of the proposed 30% Import duty, effective 9th July.
The recent weeks has seeing CTCT performed of the standard required for the World Bank to review our rating and acknowledge the work that has been done, to ensure this.
The Port of Caie Town is open for business- despite the challenges of the summer season, entering the cooler winter months, our port is working quietly behind the scenes to re-establish itself as one of the world’s great ports, and the stats are proving it!
For the past few weeks, CTCT has held its own, with an average GCH of 15 p/h and SWH of 30 p/h, per day, as follows: (Global average being 35 GCH)
- Week 11 – 18 May : 14483 TEU (Target 12283) GCH 15 (15) SWH 35.8 (32)
- Week 05 – 11 May : 15050 TEU (12283) GCH 15 (15) SWH 34.3 (32)
- Week 28/4 – 4 May : 14713 (12283) GCH 17 (15) SWH 37.34 (32)
Each of the above weeks recorded 2 days of 3200 TEU moves p/day
Please note vessels are berthing on arrival, although arrivals are down, cognizance must be taken of congestion delays at origin, in both EU and Far East hubs, impacting arrivals at PoCT.
CTMPT did not fare that well, however FPT performance was also excellent, as indicated below:
- Week 11 – 18 May : 83% Stack occupancy, 10 vessels handled; Week 5 – 11 May : 76% stack occupancy, 7 vessels handled; Week 28/4 – 4 May : 71% stack occupancy, 10 vessels handled
Equipment Update : CTCT : 8 STS, 22 RTGs 58 haulers, the 9 new RTGs are being assembled and should be in operation by mid/end July, with the following 9 due September
Accolades to CTCT and FPT – let keep the momentum going!
