Public-private stakeholder engagement yields results

The Port of Cape Town was fully operational again this morning after it was severely windbound over the weekend.

According to Terry Gale, chairman of Exports Western Cape, port authorities managed to get efficiencies up and running with very little delay and by promptly communicating the port’s status to private sector interests.

He lauded Transnet Port Terminals for keeping shippers and agents informed.

“Even if it’s late in the evening and the terminal has reopened, they will still let us know.”

He said it was particularly good news for the first public-private sector meeting scheduled for the 19th of January.

“We had the first of these meetings back in June 2020 to address Covid-related lockdown measures that were affecting the port,” Gale said.

“Since then we’ve had great success in keeping port users and the relevant authorities up to date with our regular stakeholder sessions.”
