Dear Colleagues

D-Day has arrived as we sit on the sidelines and watch this ever-evolving crisis unfold!

The ‘good’ news is that Brazil now has a 50% reciprocal tariff imposed, which could assist our agriculture exports into the USA, as Brazil is one of our main competitors in the Global South!

EWC is still fighting the fight and will not stop until a positive resolution is found, looking into new markets is not the answer as the US market remains our easiest and most profitable.

Week 32 saw EWC spend hours in discussions with the press, radio and TV as Team SA is concerned and worried on the overall impact on our economy, if only National Government shared our concerns!

As you are aware, as an independent, non-partisan association, funded by you, our members, we have invited President Donal J Trump to visit our Western Cape shores, and provide a keynote address at one of our functions.

Why you ask? Firstly,  because we can and secondly, an in-person engagement where President Trump can  appreciate and understand the strategic importance of the Western Cape is to the United States, by providing a safe passage around the Cape of Good Hope, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – no conflict zones to travel through, no Suez Canal blockages, no low water in Panama Canal, no treacherous seas like Terra del Fuego – we are still the Tavern of the Seas, as coined so many years ago!

We must market ourselves and be proud of who we are!

Ons vir jou, Suid-Afrika!!!

Ngokuzithoba!
