This certainly was the week that was – with the build-up to Tuesday 30th and the planned MoM, which in the Western Cape ended being a ‘non-event’.
This is in no small measure thanks to the collaboration between the City, SAPS, Western Cape Government and local security companies who worked collectively to ensure our safety.
This proves again that we are ‘better together’!
We cannot be held to ransom by a few who’s main goal is to destroy our country, by creating the perception that South Africa is ungovernable and a lawless State.
At our quarterly PCC (Port Consultative Committee) meeting yesterday, one of the highlights under discussion was the Culemborg Precinct which is standing fallow and this is thanks to the homeless who have taken over this ground.
The question is again raised : how can we be held to ransom by a few, who are adding nothing to the local economy, what picture does this paint for any investor?
The Culemborg precinct is the gateway to the world’s most beautiful city (in accordance with Time Out 2026 rankings!) and we are aware that Transnet has plans on the table to develop this into a logistics hub, yet the law favours the homeless!
In view of the World Bank’s rating on the PoCT at number 400, or worst performing port of the top 400 globally , we have noticed a marked drop in vessel calls over the few weeks, with both CTCT and CTMPT having not reached capacity utilsation.
Is this because of the perception of the World Bank rating?
Contrary to this, the FPT which has running at an average between 75 – 80 % of capacity,
The good news is that cognizance has been taken of this, with the Western Cape Government leading the charge, in close collaboration with Transnet and the City. We can only improve and we will!!!!
We congratulated our Canadian friends on their 159th Anniversary on Wednesday 1st July and of course, tomorrow 4th July is the 250thAnniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
