This is a special edition of our weekly GNF, now branded GNW – Good News Wednesday as we head into a long Heritage Day weekend (for many of us)
The theme for 2026 is ‘Celebrate out living Heritage – strengthening the ties that bind us’ – which could not be more appropriate taking into consideration the turmoil the world is currently in!
Heritage Day owes its origin as Shaka Day, celebrating King Shaka who passed away on this day in 1828, commemorating his role in uniting the disparate Nguni clans into a cohesive Zulu nation.
In post-apartheid South Africa, this was to changed Heritage Day celebrating our diversified nation – let us not forget where we have come from and together build a better nation for us all!
Take a moment tomorrow, before the braai and appreciate your surroundings and environment and be thankful for the fresh, clean air we breathe, look up at that sky and our beautiful surrounding landscape which is a gift to all of us.
Even our port performed well, with CTMPT being the highlight of the past week (14 – 20 September)
- 1946 TEU handled (target 518) ; 18 GCH (16 target) : 22 SWH (target 19) 30 hours rain/fog delay; 7 hour wind delay
- CTCT : 15194 TEU handled (14366 target) ; 18 GCH (target 22): 35.4 SWH (target 38) wind delay 18.3 hours; 43% stack occupancy; 529 rail moves (242 target)
- FPT :Berth Occupancy 47%; 5 vessels handled : 2 Multi cargo, 3 container; 4766 TEU handled; 1231.6 MT breakbulk
- Fruit : Citrus almost complete and the grape exports to start earlier this year due to warm spring so far

Our next confirmed function is on Wednesday 28th October with Simon Freemantle, Standard Bank’s Senior Political Economist providing the keynote address.
We are still in the process of securing Minister Parks Tau to address EWC on the current impasse on trade between the RSA and USA – will keep you posted on this.
