Dear Colleagues

It has been an extremely interesting week as the mid-terms loom in the USA on the 3rd November and SA goes to the polls the following day, 4th November, please remember to vote as we have a public holiday to make it even easier!

Interesting from the point of view of the positive response to EWC’s open letter to President Ramaphosa, we are still awaiting the President’s reaction to the facts that have been placed before him!

With the local elections around the corner and all the grandstanding taking place, one would think that the extension of AGOA, with South Africa’s inclusion would be top of the agenda?

Job creation and economic growth, is vital for a sustainable future for all

The start of the deciduous fruit season is just around the corner and the 1st grape exports from the Northern Cape should start within weeks, the question is: are we ready??

The biggest concern is DGT and the delays been experienced with the resultant impact of the vessels calling at the PoCT as planned as fruit cannot wait to be shipped and the total supply chain must work at its optimum.

Stats for week 12 – 18/10 as follows:

  • CTCT : 2184 TEU daily average 15288 TEU p/week 0.7 days average time at anchor 3.2 days alongside, 8 out of 9 STS operational and 29 of 32 RTGs
  • CTMPT – volumes down 97% and reaching just 3% of target volume
  • FPT : 1 container vessel handled : 2498 TEU’s

We should see increased figures once the fruit season is upon us.

A reminder of our October function on Wednesday 28th invitation attached, please RSVP now – we look forward to seeing you all next week.

Yours in exporting!
